The Panhellenic Council and the Interfraternity Council at MSU jointly sponsor a New Member Orientation program shortly after the organized time periods for recruitment in each of their councils. During this event, new members from each of their member chapters come together to learn about topics that are important in Greek communities nationally. Common topics include academic achievement, East Lansing rules and ordinances for residents and guests, safe sexuality, alcohol use and abuse, and the PC and IFC risk management policies.
New Member Orientation provides an opportunity for all new members to become acquainted with the rules and regulations of the Greek system. Students are required to attend this event before being initiated. During this informational meeting new members are briefed on the recruitment process and their rights; as well as policies including no-hazing, and alcohol awareness. They are provided with the opportunity to meet with several active members of the Greek community as well as with people of authority to answer any further questions they may have.
